Four Prescott girls golfers receive Golf Coachesof Wisconsin All-State honors

On Monday, Oct. 25, the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin released its 2021 Girls’ All-State Teams for the golf season that ended in Madison less than two weeks ago. Four Prescott girls golfers made the list, including Ava Salay, Jessica Heinsch, Liz Rohl and Rhi Stutz.

Prescott junior Ava Salay was selected to the First Team All-State roster and Heinsch, Rohl and Stutz were given Honorable Mention All-State honors for Division 2. The four aforementioned girls golfers received honors primarily because of individual achievement, but also because they were 80% of the best Division 2 golf team in Wisconsin this season.

The only Prescott varsity regular who didn’t receive All-State honors was Maddie Reiter, who narrowly missed the individual accolade but without question made significant contributions to the state title in Madison on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

The two seniors, Heinsch and Rohl, have been described by Prescott girls golf head coach Chad Salay as irreplaceable. Just minutes after the Prescott girls golf team hoisted the 2021 state championship trophy Chad Salay spoke about how special the group of talent was this year, primarily due to high-character girls working together to better each other every day of the season.

“This is a whole year process, it’s a whole year of hard work,” Chad Salay said after winning the state title. “Our girls are warriors; they fight through everything. Our seniors especially, just having that leadership, they take over that role and help keep pushing others as a senior. Leadership has been huge.”

Throughout the entire season, Chad Salay spoke about the importance of leadership, preparation and hard work. The Prescott girls golf team only lost one conference meet this season on their way to a conference title, a regional championship, sectional championship and finally a state championship down in Madison. Two years in a row Prescott has had the best Division 2 girls golf team in the state.

At the state tournament, the four players that received All-State honors for Prescott finished tied for 13th or better as individuals. Ava Salay finished in first, Rohl finished in seventh, Heinsch finished in 11th and Stutz finished in a tie for 13th with Sydney Burgess from Saint Croix Central.

The Prescott girls golfers not only consistently performed throughout the regular season in Middle Border Conference golf meets, but also remained consistent and even improved throughout the postseason en route to another state title.

Although seniors Rohl and Heinsch are graduating in the spring of 2022, Salay and Stutz will return to the varsity roster for Prescott’s 2022 season next fall. Next season Prescott will have a chance to defend its state title and potentially win a third consecutive state championship.
