Park High School’s ExCEL Award winners announced

Park juniors Lydia Best and Chase Hiber have been nominated to represent the school in the MSHSL ExCEL award. ExCEL – Excellence in Community, Education, and Leadership – is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, show leadership qualities, volunteer in their communities, and are model citizens.

Park’s female recipient this year is Lydia Best. Lydia is a four- time letter winner and captain in cross country and a two-time letter winner in track. In school she is involved in just about everything, including Student Council, Key Club, Link Crew, National Honor Society, Leaders of the Pack, and the Homecoming committee. Best is also very involved in the community, volunteering with the Healthy Kids Running Series and numerous fundraisers. She is an IB Diploma Candidate and has a GPA of 4.3.

Chase Hiber is Park’s male award winner. Chase is a two-year letter winner on the speech team and is also a captain and lead recruiter. He is executive producer and anchor on the morning announcements and is a Link Crew Leader and a member of AVID Council. Outside of school, Hiber is involved with the Community Education Skoolie Bus and So-WashCo Cares programs. He also volunteers in numerous roles with his church. Chase has taken many IB and AP classes and has a 2.9 GPA.

This is the 26th year that the MSHSL has sponsored the ExCEL award. An independent panel of judges from schools throughout Minnesota will select Ex-CEL Award recipients in January. Award winners (sixteen males and sixteen females) will be announced via the League website in February and will be recognized on KSTC-TV (Channel 45) during the broadcast of the 2022 winter state tournaments. Park graduates Meghan Kuemmel and Ethan Berube (2015) were both selected as state winners of this award when they were juniors. Additional information about the ExCEL Award may be obtained by visiting the Minnesota State High School League’s Web site at www.mshsl.org. Congratulations to Lydia and Chase for demonstrating excellence in community, education, and leadership.
