Visit Lake Pepin and the communities of the Great River Road

Want a quick drivable getaway or something new and fun to do close to home this summer?

That’s the message in the new Visit Lake Pepin on the Mississippi River travel guide. The publication is produced by Mississippi Valley Partners, a decades old alliance of communities on both sides of the Mississippi in the area of Lake Pepin.

The 44-page color glossy magazine guide focuses on the Great River Road that stretches between Prescott and Fountain City in Wisconsin and Red Wing and Winona in Minnesota. Feature stories, pictures and advertising showcase the popular region's ouerings, giving visitors many choices for lodging, eating, drinking and playing, especially in the great outdoors.

The Great River Road in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, part of the national scenic byway that runs 3,000 miles from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico, was recently designated an “All-American Road” by the Federal Highway Administration. To receive such a title, the byway must be na- tionally significant and have one-of-a-kind features that do not exist elsewhere. It must prove to be an exceptional traveling experience so recognizable by travelers that they would make a drive along the highway a primary reason for the trip. These roads are considered the very best of America’s National Scenic Byways Program.

All American Great River Road travel guide call out and gives special nods to Prairie Moon Sculpture Garden and Museum in Co- chrane, Maiden Rock Bluu and the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge in Alma—all on the Wisconsin side. Minnesota highlights include the Hok-Si-La Municipal Park and Campground in Lake City and Barn Bluu in Red Wing. Each community in the Mississippi Valley Partners geographic area has mentions in the new guide book. The 2022 focus is 100 miles in the great outdoors high- lighting fishing, parks and wildlife areas, birding and boating. In addition to distribution at state travel centers and locations throughout the Great River Road corridor on both sides of the Mississippi, a flip book of the Visit Lake Pepin travel guide can be accessed at www.VisitLakePepin. org.
