With the heat holding over
90 degrees for the weekend and expecting to stay above the 80s for the next few weeks, the City of Hastings put out a reminder of the wa
_ tering restrictions.
Effective Dates: May 15th to September 1st Day of Month Restric
tions: Properties with odd
_ numbered addresses are allowed to water on odd
numbered days, and proper _
ties with even
_ numbered addresses are allowed to water on even
_ numbered days. For example, if your house number is 802, you are permitted to water on June
20th but not on June 21st.
Time of Day Restrictions: Additionally, during the odd/even days when proper _ ties are permitted to water lawns, watering is prohibited between the hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Exemptions: A two _ week exemption from the odd/even sprinkling ban may be granted for newly planted sod, grass or landscaping. Other exemptions may be granted upon evaluation and recommendation of the Hast
_ ings Utility Superintendent.
If you have any questions about the watering restric
_ tions, please call our Public Works Department at 651
The importance of follow _
ing these restrictions is to en
_ sure the water table can keep up with demand. Watering in the heat of the day is not pro
_ ductive because much of the water evaporates before being absorbed into the ground.
