51st Annual Lions Watermelon Festival arrives in Chapman Park this Sunday

The 51st Annual Stanley Lions Clubs Watermelon Festival arrives July 27 in Chapman Park. Proceeds from the Watermelon Festival are used to support projects for the Stanley community. Among the many events Sunday will be a 5K run and walk, kids run with the lion, charcoal chicken dinner, cake walk, kids games, bingo, and a licensed raffle. Also taking place Sunday will be the Stanley Lions 37th Annual Car Show, with ten separate car categories.

As for the licensed raffle, top prizes are 1st $500, 2nd $250, 3rd $100, 4th $100, 5th $50, 6th $50, 7th $50, 8th $25, 9th, $25, 10th $25, 11th, $25.  The drawing for the raffle winners will take place at 4 P.M.  You need not be present to win.

Beginning at 8 A.M. there will be a craft show and flea market. For information contact Carl Edwardson 715-644-8532.

At 9 A.M. there will be a 5k run/walk. Registration on the day of race is 7:30--8:45A.M. at the Stanley Community Building. Entry fee is $20 thru July 26 and $25 July 27 thru race day. All runners receive watermelon socks. Divisions are Female & Male: 10 and under, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. The overall winner for the men’s and women’s races will receive a Running Bobble Head Trophy.  Division winners get a watermelon.  At 10:15 there will be a Free Kids 400 Yard Run with Cheech the Lion.  All participants will get a finisher’s medal and a treat after the race. A Classic Antique Auto Show will be held from 9 A.M. – 1 P.M. with ten different classes of cars.  Starting at 10:30 A.M. the Lions will be serving a charcoal chicken dinner.  There also will be a food stand. Beginning at 11 A.M. free watermelon will be available for everyone until it’s all gone.  The cakewalk also will begin at 11 A.M. and kids games are at 1 P.M.. Bingo starts at 1:30 P.M..
