Choices abound for city, village, county board

Stanley residents have a candidate for mayor this April 2, and his name is Mike Henke.
Currently serving as Ward 3 alderman for city council, Henke will stand this spring for mayor as a registered write-in.
A graduate of Stanley-Boyd with the Class of 1989, Henke’s candidacy follows the filing of non-candidacy by current mayor Al Haas, who succeeded Norm Christianson in 2020.
“The council members and the mayor asked me to run,” Henke said of his candidacy. “So that’s why I’m running.” Henke would not be the first mayor to serve non-consecutive terms in office with at least three others in city history doing so.
As to qualifications for office, Henke’s past experience includes a stint on the school board as well as city alderman prior to first becoming mayor in 2012.
Also running as registered write-ins for Stanley city council this spring are three candidates: Mark Fitzsimmons in Ward 1, Josh Seidl in Ward 2, and Aaron Dickson for Wards 4 - 7 and 9.
Fitzsimmons and Seidl are incumbents, while Dickson will seek the seat being vacated by Holly Kitchell. There is no candidate for Ward 3.
“Nobody’s on the ballot anywhere,” city administrator-clerk/treasurer Nicole Pilgrim said of the Stanley mayor and council candidates this year. “Everyone’s a write-in.”
Over at Boyd this election season are two trustee positions, sought in turn by Casey Dorn (incumbent) and Joshua Walters. Walters is seeking the seat to be vacated by Dale Isaacs.
As for county board, there are four seats and five candidates of note: James Ericksen for District 8 (City of Stanley), Matthew Peterson for District 10, Karen Lotts for District 11 south of 29 between Boyd and Cadott, and a contested race for District 6 in West Delmar/Colburn, between Timothy Goettl and Lisa Marie Westrom.
With absentee voting already happening and April 2 soon to come, election results will soon be in.
