A fire in Boyd Monday afternoon has left a garage destroyed, but without injuries. Called in at 2:13 p.m., the fire just past the intersection of St John’s and Frederick Streets on a road stub saw the Boyd-Edson-Delmar (B-E-D) Fire Department called into action, with neighbors watching from afar as firefighters battled the garage blaze at 106 Frederick Street. Fielding both engines along with Tender 1 and 2 plus Squad 1 and the ambulance, the Monday fire destroyed a car, but not human life. “No,” B-E-D Assistant Fire Chief John Zimmerman said when asked if anyone had been injured. Still under investigation as of press time, the destroyed garage belonged to Janet Kimball, per her daughter Autumn, who was on the scene after the flames went out. “I have no idea, I wasn’t here,” she said of how the fire had started, being alerted in turn by a friend who lived nearby. “A friend called and said there’s something going on at your mom’s house,” she said. No other departments were called to assist the B-E-D Fire Department with the blaze, with firefighters taking a rest after initial knockdown before going in to put out smoldering hot spots. The fire remains under investigation as to its exact cause. more
