Meeting at Oriole Park Friday, Sept. 29, the Orioles fell to the Regis Ramblers 38 - 24, but not before a sustained fourth quarter outcry from the home stands over a call.

Starting in the first quarter, Oriole Jesse Allard made the kickoff, the ball being returned to Regis’ 41-yard line. With a subsequent two-yard gain stopped by Oriole offensive/defensive lineman Gavin Hatfield and linebacker Chase Sturm making the follow-up tackle, a subsequent two-yard gain by Regis was stopped “by a nest of Orioles” as the announcer put it.

With a flag on the play and 10:46 left in the first quarter, the ball stayed in the Rambler’s possession, Oriole offensive/defensive lineman Storm Tiry tackling the quarterback. With an incomplete pass to follow up on Regis part, the ball was punted to the Oriole 44-yard line from the 28 for an Oriole first down.

Taking possession of the ball, the Orioles sent running backs Rudy Kletsch and Landon Karlen upfield, with Karlen taking the ball to the Regis 20-yard line from the 38, the Orioles suffering a flag for false start to set things back.

With an end zone fumble recovered from the Orioles recovered by Regis Chase Kostka, the play saw a player down, with defensive lineman Robert Poole checked out before walking off the field.

The Orioles coming back for a safety on the play after turnover by Regis with 6:48 in the first quarter, Oriole wide receiver Madden Mahr returned the kickoff for a first quarter touchdown, the extra point good and bringing the game 9-0 in the Orioles favor.

Making the return for the Ramblers, Everett Tait was tackled by Oriole linebacker Alex Williams, Regis nonetheless able to keep the ball for a touchdown and make good the conversion to make the score 9-8 Orioles with 6:16 in the first quarter.

With more back and forth between Regis and the Oriole varsity, the Orioles expanded their lead to 16-8 against the Ramblers with a touchdown by Kletsch and extra point attempt by Allard. A Regis fumble later recovered by Stanley-Boyd, the Ramblers fought back, regaining possession and leaving the score in a `16-16 tie with 7:35 on the second quarter clock. Coming the half, the score remained tied. With the designated ticket holder not making the Forward Financial touchdown throw at halftime, Forward still donated $2,500 to Oriole athletics. The junior 50/50 raffle winner also called at halftime, the lucky ticket holder for ticket 557960 went home with $370, the balance going to support the prom and junior class.

Opening the third quarter with the two teams in a tie, Regis recovered an inside kick by the Orioles at the 46-yard line. Not content to sit back and watch, the Orioles fought back, with offensive/defensive lineman Willy Graham making a tackle along with Mahr.

Regis able to keep the ball in its possession, the tie broke 23-16 in Regis favor with 10:18 left in the third quarter. The Orioles were able to get a first down off a punt caught by Landon Hoel at the 41-yard line and follow this up with a touchdown by Mahr and two point conversion by Karlen—and that’s where it ended for the Orioles in terms of scoring Friday.

With more back and forth and Regis widening its lead in the fourth first to 31-24 and then 38-24, a run by Karlen ended with a holding call against the Orioles and ten-yard penalty, a followup flagged play by Kletsch resulting in a personal foul called against the Orioles saw considerable and sustained outcry from the home stands, dissenting on the calls.

With the final game score 38-24 and the Orioles ranked fourth in the Cloverbelt, they play Elk Mound at Elk Mound Friday, Oct. 6. Game start is 7:00 p.m.
