Orioles score win over Thorp with 53 -34 finish

The Oriole girls varsity soared above the Thorp Cardinals Friday, Jan. 26, coming away with a 53 - 34 finish. The finish comes as the seventh ranked team continues to get experience, with coach Ryan Wundrow sharing more after the game score was tallied.
“It was nice to get a win,” he said. “We try not to overemphasize outcomes but winning a game helps validate your hard work. We have made a lot of improvements and shot the ball well vs Thorp. We did a much better job this time around vs their press which led to more offensive possessions. We still are working on taking care of the ball but we can live with turnovers in aggressive mistakes. We look forward to the challenges ahead and building for our future.”
As for individual players, Wundrow said that, “Lauren Potaczek really shot it well with 5 threes and has been our most consistent scorer,” while Aaliyah Allard handling the ball and growing into her role nicely.
“We put a lot on Aaliyah Allard to handle the basketball the majority of the time and she is growing into her role nicely,” he said.
But while Kamryn Derks is back on the court, the team still awaits return to the game of Syleen Seichter, still currently out for injury.
“We hope to get Syleen Seichter back before the end of the season,” Wundrow said. “She hasn’t missed a practice despite being injured since our first Cadott game in early December.”
Also coming up for mention was Bailey Sikora, as one of the teams best shooter, scoring 11 points vs. Thorp Friday.
As for other players, Wundrow said that, “Kennedy Reed, Ella Nitz, Addy Mahr, Ava Prahl, Kamryn Derks, and Lula Chwala all contributed to our win with some great defense and rebounding.”
Also taking place Friday, Jan. 26 was parent’s night, with Wundrow making brief remarks before game start.
“It really means a lot to me so I appreciate your contined support as we go throughout the season and a couple more to go. Thank you,” he said.
The Orioles next face McDonell at home Thursday, Feb. 1. Game start is 7:15 p.m.
