Orioles win against Mondovi, fall to Black River Falls and Fall Creek in week’s play

Coming off a week’s competition, the Orioles girls varsity overall record now stands at 4 - 3 - 0 for the season thus far, with one win and two losses over the past week. Starting against Fall Creek Thursday, the Orioles fell 0 - 10 to the Crickets, followed with a 5 - 7 loss to Black River Falls before a 3 - 2 win against Mondovi on Saturday, with all games at home. Head coach Andrea Mahr shared more on how the week went.
“With the Fall Creek game, it wasn’t that we weren’t hitting,” she said. “We only had three strikeouts. Our hits just weren’t finding gaps. Their bunt game got us. They have a lot of athletic and fast girls, that even when fielding cleaning, it is hard to get them out. They are a quality team, but due to injuries we didn’t have everyone in their ideal positions. It will be fun to face them again later in the season to see if we can be more competitive with them, which I think we can.”
Falling to Black River Falls Saturday, Mahr said there are some errors that shouldn’t have happened.
“There were some errors in that game that shouldn’t have happened, and our bats didn’t make up for those errors,” she said. “Similar to the Fall Creek game, the ball was in play, just not quality.”
Following Black River Falls Saturday with a game against Mondovi, Mahr said the team had come back, finishing the week with a win.
“During the Mondovi game we looked and felt more like ourselves,” she said. “We fell behind 0-2 early but kept quality defense going the rest of the game, holding them. Senior pitcher, Abby Reynolds, was having a great game with 6 strikeouts at really critical times! In the 6th and 7th innings our bats finally came alive, starting with a home run from Bailey Sikora. I always say that hits are contagious, and this game proved that statement to be true.”
Looking forward to Thorp, Bloomer, and McDonell this week, Mahr said Saturday the team was looking to win.
“This week we have a hard conference run facing Thorp, Bloomer and McDonell,” she said. “Hoping we get our bats started right away and snag a few wins!”
