Established in 1945, the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America or FCCLA strives to make a difference in families, careers, and communities in the United States and to prepare young people for success. The FCCLA, a national organization for students in grade 6-12, includes over 237,000 student members and more than 7,000 Chapter Advisors across 5,100 chapters, including famous alumni, Dolly Parton, and Reba McIntire. Through the ever-expanding FCCLA, members improve communication, develop character, and expand their leadership potential while applying practical knowledge and learning life skills for career preparation. In addition, the FCCLA hosts Students Taking Action with Recognition or STAR events where students can compete individually or as a team at regional/district, state, and national levels in four categories: online events, career preparation events, foundational events and leadership events. These competitive events give students a platform to demonstrate their remarkable skills, unique abilities, and share their knowledge while making positive changes around them. Two Stanley-Boyd High School students, Makenna Schuebel and Bella Goettl share the projects they created to compete in the upcoming STAR events.

Makenna Schuebel

Makenna Schuebel is a Junior at Stanley-Boyd High School. This is her third year competing in FCCLA and she is currently a Chapter Officer. This year she is competing under the category Chapter Service Project. Her project this year is titled Embracing YOU! It focuses on spreading positivity and inspiring young women and girls to feel comfortable and confident in their bodies. To achieve this, she added affirmations and decorations to the girls' restrooms. She also put together little carts full of toiletries, feminine hygiene products, and other essential items to add to the facilities as well. In addition to that she will be holding a feminine hygiene product drive through February and March. If you would like to donate to Makenna’s project contact Chapter Advisor Kari Thorpe at kthrope@s-bschools.org or call at 715-644-5534 ex. 134 for more information.

Bella Goettl

Bella Goettl is a Junior at Stanley-Boyd High School. This is her 3rd year competing in FCCLA and is her second year of being in office. This year, she is competing in the Entrepreneurship category with her project titled "Bella's Boutique". She attended a wholesale fashion event where she acquired products to place in a pop-up shop. Her pop-up is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota at her mom's salon. She sells bags, shoes, jewelry, soaps, etc. She also created a business plan for her boutique which she hopes to someday fulfill!
