Current 2022 deer hunter registrations are showing com- parable results to the past five year average. However, as of last week, statewide registrations were ahead of last year by 14 percent with the Northern Forest and Southern Farmland Regions indicating a 20 percent increase in registrations from last year. The antlerless harvest is 30 percent ahead of last year, driven mainly by the Southern Farm Region which shows a nice recovery from the drop in 2021.
The youth deer hunting season returned to a more typical 8,000+ deer harvest this year, after a low last year of less than 5,000 deer harvested. DNR officials claim the increase likely reflected better hunting conditions and an increase in hunter efforts compared to last year.
As of last week, Chippewa County had registered 307 antlered and 398 antlerless deer for a total of 705 deer. Clark County had registered 410 antlered and 769 antlerless deer for a total of 1,179. Eau Claire County had registered 188 antlered and 269 antlerless deer for a total of 457 deer.
