There’s still time to sign up for student help with yard chores Thursday, Nov. 12.
Accepting requests for assistance through Thursday, Oct. 29, the students at Stanley-Boyd High School will soon head out into the community for service during the 23rd Annual Make a Difference Day Thursday, Nov. 12.
The long running tradition organized by the Student Council assists senior citizens in the Stanley and Boyd communities with fall chores and other needs. Scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 12, Make a Difference Day will see student volunteers rake leaves and help elderly residents prepare their properties for the approaching winter season.
Organized by the Stanley-Boyd High School Student Council, the annual service project provides students with an opportunity to give back to their communities while helping older residents with seasonal yard work.
The event is advertised as the 19th annual Make-A-Difference Day, although the Student Council’s announcement also describes it as the 23rd annual day of service.
Senior citizens in Stanley and Boyd who need assistance with leaf raking are encouraged to contact the Student Council to request help. Residents can call Stanley-Boyd High School at 715-644-5534, extension 133, or email ksteinmetz@s-bschools.org.
Those requesting assistance should leave their name, address, telephone number and any additional information that might help volunteers complete the work.
The deadline to register for assistance is Thursday, Oct. 29, allowing organizers time to coordinate student volunteers and determine which properties will receive help during the afternoon event.
Following the cleanup, snacks will be provided at Stanley-Boyd High School for participating volunteers.
Beyond providing practical assistance to senior citizens, Make-A-Difference Day offers students an opportunity to demonstrate the importance of volunteerism, community involvement and helping neighbors.
