Letter to the Editor: “Don’t let children be sitting ducks” (writer calls for a frank open discussion on school safety in light of events at Sandy Hook Elementary).

Red Cross urges everyone to get their flu shot now Widespread flu activity is being reported across much of the country and the American Red Cross urges people who have not yet gotten a flu vaccine to get vaccinated now.

The Red Cross also has steps people can take to prevent the spread of the flu virus during what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says is the worst influenza outbreak in several years in the United States.

20 years ago January 16, 2003 Trinity Christian Fellowship Features Evangelist Ric Gorden Ric Gorden, evangelist, will be ministering at Trinity Christian Fellowship on Sunday (10:30 a.m.), Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) and at the Jan. 26 service (10:30 a.m.).

Also on Jan. 26, there will be a community-wide family night, from 7 – 9 p.m. Come and enjoy the humor and music of Ric’s ministry. A love offering will be taken for Ric.

On Jan. 24, there will be a free teen night, from 7 p.m. to midnight. There will be games, videos, times of sharing with Ric, pizza and snacks. This event is open to the teens of our community and the surrounding area.

30 years ago January 21, 1993 Village Seeks To Refinance Street & Utility Project Loan Gerrald Realty Reveals Plans To Build Boyd Housing Units The Boyd Village Board held its regular meeting on January 11, 1993. Dennis Zais was unable to attend.

Also present at the meeting was R. Nayes, T. Karlen and Duane Munson, of Ayres and Associates.

Of most immediate impact on Village residents was approval of new garbage and recycling rates in the Village, which passed on a motion by Machler and a second by J. Zais.

Trustee Schoch advised that garbage and recycling rates will increase 4.2 %. The present rate for garbage is $8.04 and with the increase the rate will go to $8.37 per month. Bags will cost $2.92 each. The present recycling rate is $2.78 per household, and that cost will go to $2.90 for residents.

One recycling change to note is no gray cardboard, cereal boxes or milk cartons. Paper and garbage bags are still allowed. Labels no longer
