Orioles Beat Cornell 21 – 7 The Stanley-Boyd Orioles championship express continues to roll. Wednesday night the squad clinched at least a share of first place in the Western half of the Cloverbelt by downing the defending champions, the Cornell Chiefs, 21 – 7. It was a very convincing and satisfying win for the Orioles, who dominated the game played on an extremely wet and muddy Cornell gridiron. The host squad were held without a first down until 5:48 remained in the third quarter of play. Coach Gene Hatfield told the Republican he thought the defensive unit played exceptionally well, especially in their defense of the rushing of Ken Ash, who is the leading ground gainer in the Cloverbelt West, with 618 yards in 89 attempts. The Orioles held young Ash to 43 yards in 21 carries.
