The Thorp Courier
After 17 years, Bowmar Appraisals of Eau Clare will be doing a complete revaluation of all properties within the city of Thorp and bring them up to 100 percent of market value. The revaluation is expected to be completed by the fall of 2023. +++ The Thorp Area Historical Society is hosting their 4th Annual Gingerbread Contest. Build a gingerbread house, farm, skyscraper, church, cabin or any other structure you can imagine. Each category of contestants must pay a three dollar entrance fee. Gingerbread structures are to be brought to the historical society museum on either Saturday, December 3, from 10 am to 4 pm or Sunday, December 4, from 1-3 pm. The Thorp museum will be open for viewing the gingerbread structures on Saturday, December 10, from 10 am 4 pm and Sunday, December, 11, 1-3 pm. The people’s choice votes will cost $1 each. +++ On Wednesday, November 9, a ribbon cutting was held at Healthy Healing Horizons, located at 208 N. Washington St. Nikki Karlen is the owner and operator. Nikki cares for people with a myriad of health issues and offers vitamins, minerals and supplements to target multiple body systems. +++ Thorp has new Welcome to Thorp signs on Highway 29. The mostly red and white signs feature the city motto “A place to belong.”

Russ Falkenberg requested that some property he owns have zoning changed from R-1 and R-2 Single Family Residential to R-3 Twin Family Residential, as he plans to put duplexes on the property. The Cadott Village Board approved the request at its November 7 meeting. +++ Cadott’s oldest female veteran, Lorraine Beaudin, has passed at age 100. The veteran joined the Navy when she was age 22 in 1944. Lorraine graduated from Cornell High School before serving in Washington, D. C., in the U. S. Waves, as a Seaman First Class. +++ Sgt. First Class Travis Machler – Retired, lead the Cadott community in thanking all veterans of all branches of the military, while serving as guest speaker for the Cadott School District’s Veteran Day Program on November 11. +++ After the Lake Holcombe’s Veteran’s Day Program, students filed by the veterans in attendance to give them thanks and even hugs, in some cases. +++ The Cadott Lions had a busy October! Their month’s activities included cleaning trash from a section of Highway 27, a family picnic at the Lions pavilion, a plastic party, Governor’s Visitation with awards, they held their 75th Anniversary celebration, senior bingo at the Goetz Town Hall and participation in their first Trunk or Treat event held at the Cadott High School parking lot.
Bloomer Advance
At their regular meeting on Wednesday, November 9, the Bloomer City Council voted to rescind the levying of special assessments for the 2022-2023 road construction project. Because this was a mandated project it has been concluded that making no assessments would not be precedence setting. Mayor James Koehler made the point that the project being forced on the city, it did not fall under planned projects or planned maintenance or upgrades. +++ On Veteran’s Day, November 11, Bloomer Veterans enjoyed conversations with students and staff over breakfast at the Bloomer High School. +++ Friends of the Bloomer Library recently presented the library with a $2,500 donation. The money was from funds earned sorting and selling used donated books. +++ Pastor Scott Sacrey, of The Fountain Church, cut the ribbon at the recently opened Twice Blessed Resale Shop on Friday, November 11, to become the newest member of the Bloomer Chamber of Commerce. +++ James Mc Elroy of Bloomer shot a 15 point buck (170 inches) on Sunday, November 6, east of Cameron.

The previously unsolved mystery of Unity resident Kenneth Juedes’s death was featured on NBC’s Dateline on November 11. The story of the 2006 murder ran for a two-hour time period and covered the ins and outs of the murder and subsequent court proceedings. Juedes’s wife, Cindy Schultz-Juedes was sentenced to life in prison earlier this year for the murder. +++ After a high speed chase through Abbotsford and Stetsonville, that reached 120 + mph, Aaron Black of Medford was arrested with requested charges being fleeing from an officer, as well as exceeding speed zones (45+ mph), failure to stop and operating left of center. +++ Complaints registered at the Abbotsford City Council Meeting on November 7, has the city taking action to potentially increase its fines for noise violations within the city.

The Owen-Withee High School Theater Department’s one-act play is advancing to state competition. The troupe will perform their entry “The Layover” by Tracy Wells, on Friday, November 18, at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech and Dramatic Arts Association’s State Festival. +++ Joe Smoczyk, of Yellowstone Computer, recommends that any water damage to computer systems be handled by a knowledgeable technician. Water damage may not always be obvious and a technician knows the common signs to look for. Trying to open the computer can cause further damage to the system. At a computer shop, the technician can look inside for corrosion around connectors and your motherboard. It is best to unplug a wet computer and get help!
Tri-County – Area Times
A $10.5 million referendum for capital improvements and maintenance repairs and a $4.5 million referendum to build a new Augusta Elementary School gymnasium passed. With the funding the district will be building the new elementary gym, construct new classrooms, expand the tech education area, develop an ADA compliant community fitness center, repair the greenhouse, and relocate District offices. +++ The Osseo-Fairchild School Board reviewed and approved intruder lock-down drills during their monthly meeting on Monday, November 14. +++ Osseo’s 35th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade will be held on Friday, November 25 at 7 p.m.
