Cadott School Board to hold two public meetings on long-range plans

The Cadott School Board has set Tuesday, August 30 and Thursday, September 8, for public meetings to present longrange ideas for the school district. The August meeting will present a facility overview and will cover capital maintenance, along with the long-range ideas for the facilities. The September meeting will have a briefer facility review and look more into financial pieces. +++ A Cornell resident visited the August 4 meeting of the Cornell City Council pointing out that some city sidewalks need replacement. A council member agreed to do a walk-along with the resident and identify what areas need to be addressed. +++ Lightening, on the night of August 8, was believed to have been the cause of a barn fire in the Town of Cleveland that caused the loss of 30 goats. On scene, there was a total of 40 firefighters assisting the Cornell Fire Department. +++ Residents of the Cadott Fire District are invited to an open- house on Saturday, August 20. It will be an opportunity for the department to showcase some of their newer equipment, much of which has come from donations. +++ A new business has opened in Cornell. Brittany Hurlburt opened The Black Butterfly in July, ouering reiki energy healing. According to the owner, reiki can help those who have anxiety or stress, and ouers physical, men –
tal, emotional and spiritual benefits.

Wednesday, August 3, winds to 60 miles per hour hit Thorp resulting in downed trees. Many residents spent Wednesday clearing their yards and driveways of fallen trees and debris. No injuries were reported in Thorp as a result of the storm. Over 14,000 residents of northern Wisconsin lost power due to the storm, including much of the city of Thorp. +++ Lines formed early, as Thorp area residents waited to purchase a signed copy of the book, “Sit Down And Stay Awhile.” The book was written by Eau Clare Writer in Residence, Ken Szymanski, from stories told him by his aunt Lil Kaczmarek, who ran Leo and Lil's Bar in Thorp for 52 years.

On Tuesday, August 2, Bloomer joined in holding a National Night Out. The event included an opportunity for kids to put out a fire inside the Bloomer Fire Station, families learned about equipment inside an ambulance and were able to ask EMTs questions, a bouncy house and slide were fun attractions, Crime Stoppers had information available, the Bloomer Police answered questions on the duties of Rocky their K-9 dog and children were excited to see the inside of a fire truck and all the controls a fire fighter uses. It was a great opportunity for the Bloomer Com munity to learn about what the local emergency service folks do. +++ Bloomer has another new business located on its Main Street. Mollie Steinmetz has opened Hair Bye Mollie. As the owner and operator Mollie uses electrolysis to permanently remove unwanted hair. Most commonly treated are the hairline, eyebrows, upper and lower lip, cheeks, sideburns, chin, neck, shoulders, arms, under-arms, breasts, abdomen, bikini line, legs, back and chest. Steinmetz earned her degree and license through the Eau Claire Institute of Electrology.
O-W Enterprise The Owen-Withee Lions Club is planning a major improvement project for the former tennis courts on the west end of the Lions Park in Withee. In the northwest corner, they are planning on creating two pickleball courts. Pickleball is a racket/paddle sport created by combining elements of several other sports.
+++ The O-W Sewer Commission has billed Kerry Ingredients $20,060 due to a caustic spill. This includes extra costs for ferric, annual phosphorus payment, fee notification, testing, and labor.
The Tribune-Phonograph The Abbotsford School District held a ceremonial ground-breaking on Tuesday, August 2, to start a 16,253 square foot, $6.7 million addition to their school complex. The addition will be partially funded by a FEMA grant, community donations of $340,00 and passing a district referendum. +++ One of the last community celebrations of the summer was held in Abbotsford on August 12-14. This was the 17th year for the celebration known as Abbotsford First City Days.

The 10th Annual Owen Main Street Car Show will take place on Saturday, August 20. The event is organized by the Owen Downtown Revitalization Committee, with financial support of many local sponsors.

The Greenwood Pubic Library is looking to expand its footprint. Their library is the smallest in the county, but has the fourth-highest circulation. The library averages 23 to 25 patrons a day. The proposed addition would be 1,342 square feet, bringing total square footage to 4,094 square feet. The library board is in the process of getting a cost estimate and is hopeful for fund- ing from the city in 2026. +++ The Loyal Area Historical Society recently held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of their new one-room country school replica. The school will house all the old school materials and photographs the society has collect- ed over the years. +++ On August 18, the Granton Community Library, will celebrate 10 years of being merged. Back in 2012, the school board suggested the merging of the school and community libraries as the community was exploring building on or constructing a new library. Moving the library to the school has allowed it to be open full time The merger has been viewed as a win-win for everyone.

The Osseo-Fairchild School Districts new Tech Ed Building held an open house and ribbon cutting on Sunday, August 14, from 1-5 pm. The new building came about because of a ref- erendum in which district residents provided the funding. +++ With a shortage of teachers Osseo-Fairchild School District will be providing the Durand -Arkansas School District with their chemistry teacher via online, remote and virtual platforms, until Durand-Arkansaw can hire a chemistry teacher. +++ The Au gusta School District purchased Memorial Park from the city of Augusta and has begun renovating it. Improvements planned by the school district include renovation of the baseball field and dugouts, the addition of youth recreation areas, reconditioning of the basketball and tennis courts, adding modern playground equipment and surfaces and a future pavilion gathering place.
