Clark County Fair celebrates 150 years

NEWS OF NOTE FROM OUR NEIGHBORS

The Clark County Fair is celebrating 150 years. This year’s Sesquicentennial event is being held August 10-14, at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Neillsville. +++ One of the highlights of this year’s Lublin Days Ball Tournament, was the Sunday afternoon honoring of Ray Lewan, Lublin’s “Mr. Baseball,” at a ceremony held at the local ball diamond. The July 29-31 celebration, also included a steak and egg breakfast on Saturday and a charcoal chicken dinner on Sunday, with the Lublin American Legion cooking both meals. Saturday evening fireworks and a Sunday parade in which Ray and Pauline Lewan served as Grand Marshall’s, followed by the Cynor Classics performing at the pavilion rounded out the activities. +++ The 11th Annual Teclaw Family Reunion was held on July 29-30, with 98 descendants of Mike and Verna Teclaw gathering in Thorp. +++ Camp Victory will be holding their 3rd Annual Open House on Saturday, August 13. The Camp is located at N9839 SterlingAvenue, Willard and featured will be food, adult rawes, silent auction and kid's free rawe. Complimentary food will be served from 11 am-2 pm. Camp Victory ouers outdoor activities, retreats and relax ation for Veterans with PTS. Camping or lodging is available for veterans and their families.

The end of an era has truly come, as the Cobban Bridge is set for replacement. Governor Tony Evers has signed a $4.7 million contract, with Sheet Piling Services of Custer, for the dismantling of the old bridge and construction of a new bridge. Work was scheduled to begin on Monday, August 8, with completion anticipated in October 2023. +++ The new paint job on the Cor – nell water tower is finished, with colors tying in with the school colors. +++ Meeting on August 1, the Cadott Village Board turned down a request from a village resident for a Kennel License, approved an ordnance on harassment and bullying, that spells out parental responsibilities in the case of minors and hired Jeremy Kenealy, as Director of Public Works. +++ Lifetime Ca- dott residents Gene and Ann Bell, served as this year's Nabor Days Parade Grand Marshall's. Their selection was attributed to their leadership, character, community involvement and for their work on behalf of veterans. Gene is the oldest living Korean War veteran in Chippewa County. +++ With the city’s blessing, volunteers from the Cornell Area Betterment Association spruced up the kitchen/restrooms at the Mill Yard Park on July 19 and 20.

Bloomer Advance

On Sunday, August 7, Chris Conrad, President of PMI, Inc., served as the 2022 Bloomer Community Fair Parade Marshall. Chris started at PMI working in sales, helping to expand the company's Midwest presence. He then took the position of Gen eral Manager and after a few years was named president of the company. +++ On July 23, the New Auburn FFA hosted their 14th Annual Heart Walk during Jamboree Days. +++ St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eagleton will be celebrating their 140th Anniversary on Sunday, August 14, at an 11 am church service. A grilled chicken dinner will be served at the Eagleton Town Hall following the service. +++ Bloomer Crazy Days was held on Fri day August 5, during the week of the Bloomer Community Fair celebration.

O-W Enterprise Twenty-five members and guests attended the Owen, Withee

and Owen-Withee High School, 27th All Class Reunion, held at Meadowview Golf Club, on Saturday, July 23. Classes repre sented were from 1947-1977. Cindy Cardinal talked about the newly formed Owen-Withee Area Historical Society. +++ Meeting on Wednesday, July 20, the Withee Planning Commission voted to change the zoning from R-1 Singe Family Residential to R-2 Multi[Family Residential on land owned by Roger and Ellen Niemi, The approval will allow the building of four duplexes on the land which is located on the north end of Withee. +++ The Owen City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 26, included a closed session. After the closed session, it was announced that the behavior of an alderman was discussed and it was recommended that counseling be sought within the calendar year. +++ If you take a drive by a property on County A north of Withee, you will see an old tractor that was turned into a flower garden centerpiece.

The Tribune-Phonograph Colby City Council has passed a new tree ordinance that requires anyone wanting to plant a tree between the curb and the sidewalk to obtain a permit. +++ Emptying a water tower for cleaning inside and outside has presented a number of unique problems for the City of Abbotsford. Among them is the issue of needing to disconnect a number of city and county communication antennas *** The Sentinel & Rural News

On July 26, the greater Greenwood Community celebrated a remodel and updating of the Bransititer Old Streets of Green wood Museum. The museum was established in the 1980’s by Don Bransititer, to house the many artifacts he had collected locally and in his travels. When he passed away in 1993, the family donated the museum to the City of Greenwood. +++ Katherine Jackson-Schneider, DO, has joined the Aspirus Stanley Clinic's stau of medical experts, and is now welcoming new patients of all ages. The upstate New York native is finding living in the area compatible with her love of outdoor activities including hiking, backpacking, running and camping.

Tri-Couty Area Times

Back on July 24, Fritz Geske served as the Grand Marshall of the Fall Creek Fun Days Parade. +++ Eric Goplin of Osseo, is the president of a group called “Landingslag in America,” which is dedicated to the preservation of Norwegian cultural heritage and historical knowledge of one’s roots.” A gathering in Osseo on July 22-23 drew attendees from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, North Dakota and South Dakota. Highlights of the gathering, that was headquartered at The Condensery in Osseo, were a visit to the South Beef River Lutheran Church, wagon rides at the Goplin farm and a concert performance by the Stouthearted Men. During the gathering the group also held their annual meeting and provided genealogy exploration.
