Cadott schools looking at long-range facility planning

Under the direction of Miron Construction and ISG Archi- tects, the Cadott School Board is looking at what they are envi – sioning the future would look like for the junior and senior high building. The school board is reviewing options and doing a pri oritization of planning what needs to be done over the next 15-20 years. The goal is to get the pieces in the right spot and where the spaces should be from a master plan perspective. Among con – siderations the board kept were media center updates, moving the district and main ovce together in one secure location, tech ed and art room expansions/improvements, and a separate building for maintenance. Miron and ISG will return to a Committee of the Whole Meeting on August 29, with updated options reflecting the board's feedback. +++ At their July 21 meeting, the Cornell City Council learned that work on the city’s water tower is in the home stretch and it won’t be long before it is back in service. +++ On July 25, as part of summer school at Lake Holcombe, a Lifelink helicopter landed for training at the United Methodist Church. Members of the local fire department, ambulance ser- vice and police department were on hand to refresh their knowl – edge of emergency helicopter protocols and to help mentor youth through the Rural Youth Health Imitative Camp program.

C & A Auto hosted their Second Annual Bike & Trike Show on Saturday, July 23. There were plenty of concessions along with music provided by the Rowdy Boys Entertainment. The event took place from 10 am to 3 pm when awards were given out in eight categories. The day ended with riders participating in a loud pipes contest. C & A said the event was a success and they are already looking forward to next year's Bike & Trike Show. +++ From Memory Lane 75 Years Ago (1947) The Thorp base- ball team has been invited to play the Stanley nine at that place on Sunday evening, July 27th at 8:30 under lights. This will be the ovcial opening of the new field in Chapman Park. Opening ceremonies and fireworks will be added features.

Bloomer Advance

On Saturday, July 30, the Bloomer American Legion received Martin Treptow's WWI medals. The ceremony occurred on the 101st anniversary of Martin A. Treptow American Legion Honor Guard escorting his body from the train station to the funeral home in Bloomer. Thanks to the help of Rep. Jesse James, the family recently applied for, and received Martin's medals — a Purple Heart and a WWI Victory Medal. The Bloomer Legion Post is named after the fallen soldier. +++ On July 13, the Blue Hills Shooting Stars, athletes from Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, Cameron, Barron, Bruce and Bloomer School Districts, participated in the Pistol/Rifle and Trap Scholastic Shooting Program, in the 2022 National Championship, held in Marengo, Ohio. O-W Enterprise The July 16, Owen-Withee Alumni sponsored Cow, Plows and Wine fundraiser at Munson Bridge, drawing a nice crowd. Donated items by local businesses resulted in Big Bucket rawes, a gun and rifle rawe, walk around rawes with limited entries, and a live auction, with all raising funds for the FFA and FFA Alumni..

The Tribune-Phonograph The Abbotsford City Council established a new dog park at Shortner Park North, a mile northeast of the city. +++ After receiving the lowest bid of upwards of $500,000 for a new concession stand and media booth building at Arrow Park baseball field, the Abbotsford City Council had rejected all bids and is exploring cheaper options. +++ Forward Bank has donated $75,000 to help update the announcer’s booth and speaker system at the Abbots ford football field. +++ The Colby Community Library wrapped up a successful summer reading program with nearly 300 eager readers and family members attending a final program held at the library amphitheater/gazebo area on the library grounds. Stau, volunteers, and 64 business donors helped make the eight-week program possible.

On July 18-19, Owen was visited by two judges from America in Bloom. During their visit Cindy Cardinal, a Grown' Owen member, provided a narrated tour via the Blackhawk Express Train. While in Owen they stayed at the historic Woodland Hotel and attended the O-W Chamber of Commerce picnic. America in Bloom envisions communities as welcoming and vibrant places to live, work and play – benefiting from colorful plants and trees; enjoying a clean environment; celebrating heritage; and planting pride through volunteerism. +++ On Monday, July 18, the Loy- al Area Historical Society celebrated the opening of their fourth building – the Mack School. The one room school is lined with desks and antiques throughout.

The Neillsville School Board is looking at going to a refer endum next April to ask district taxpayers for funding to update district school buildings. The list of projects needing to be done could top $16.9 million. All district buildings would receive up- dates as a part of the proposals. The districts last building proj ect will be 23 years old next year. +++ Dollar General has approached the Granton Village Board seeking to purchase 1.8 aces of village owned property for $120,000. Granton thus joins two other area communities in which Dollar General is looking to locate a store. At a public hearing, there was some concern from the crowd about additional travc. Dollar General has stated they intend to build in the area with or without the village’s support.

Three local businesses showcased their products at this year’s Farm Technology Days held at Loyal, July 12-14. They included Best Footing Concrete Groves, Osseo Plastics and Supply and Osseo Automotive. +++ After a devastating fire that destroyed its business, the Chicken Chaser’s Bar and Grill reopened on July 19 and has been very, very busy as people enjoy the return of the popular Fall Creek dining spot.

Mondovi Buualo County News

Last week, Buualo River Masonic Lodge #252 gave away thousands of dollars in fire suppression equipment they hope will never be used. The Fire Suppression Tool (FST) units were presented to the Mondovi, Eleva, Strum and Osseo fire departments. These are state-of-the art portable fire suppression devices capable of slowing the progress of a fire or even putting it out completely. +++ On May 26, a total of 11 postmasters, including four from local post ovces, took the Oath of Ovce during a ceremony conducted at the Eau Claire Post Ovce. Area communities with new postmasters are Mondovi, Durand, Strum and Augusta.
