The Thorp community enjoyed fireworks at Northside Park on Friday, July 1. The show got underway at 10 pm. The fabulous array of fireworks included balls of patriotic color and the rockets red glare created a picturesque atmosphere for wishing America a happy birthday. The evening concluded with a parade of sound and color lighting up the Thorp sky, which reminded one of how beautiful our nation truly is. +++ The Thorp football team sold brats, chips and water during the fireworks, with all proceeds going into the football program fund. +++ The final July fireworks in our area took place on Saturday, July 9, under the sponsorship of the Rock Dam Lake Association and was held Lakeside starting at 9:30 pm. +++ The Mid-State Pullers of Wisconsin held their truck and tractor pull at Thorp Northside Park on Saturday, July 2. The event began at 6 pm and concluded around midnight. +++ From Memory Lane 100 Years Ago (1922) The ball game at Stanley on July 4th was easily won by Thorp. The score was Thorp 6 Stanley 1.

Bloomer Advance

Bloomer has a new business located in what formerly housed Woodlund Building Supply. It is known as the Golden Calf Company and is owned and operated by Andy and Dagmar Beckel. The Golden Calf Company produces products to assist a dairy farm with colostrum management. Bovine colostrum is the first milk produced after birth and is a rich natural source of macroand micro-nutrients, immunoglobulins, and peptides with antimicrobial activity and growth factors. All of which are important during the first two weeks of a calf’s life. The new company manufactures colostrum bags and all the accessories for helping building up immunity in calves. +++ Several hundred people from the community were present on June 29 to celebrate the unveiling of Dove Healthcare’s new 24-apartment assisted living residence in Bloomer. +++ The newly ordained Fr. Matthew Bowe celebrated his “Mass of Thanksgiving” at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer on Sunday, June 26. Among those attending the celebration were Fr. Francis Ruu (ordained 60 years ago) a Bloomer native currently residing in Trenton, Kentucky, Fr. Victor Feltes St. Paul’s pastor, Fr. Chinnappan Pelavendran from South India, St. Paul’s associate pastor and Isaac Pecha St. Paul’s seminarian, who plans to be ordained a priest next year.

Parishioners of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville, joined with Fr. Gregory Michaud in reviving the traditional Corpus Christi (Body of Christ) procession June 19. The procession circled central Neillsville with stops for blessings at the fire hall, city hall, police station, school and courthouse. +++ A Red Cross Blood Drive at Loyal on June 16 resulted in 61 units collected, which was nine over the goal of 52 units. This was a new record for Loyal. +++ The Greenwood School Board recently approved the purchase of a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV). The vehicle will be used to properly care for multiple ball fields. +++ The Neillsville Recreation Department is holding disc golf competitions weekly and a youth tournament will culminate the practices on August 9.

The Tribune-Phonograph The Colby FFAAlumni Association held a chicken drop bingo 50/50 rawe at the Colby Dairy Breakfast on June 26. The winner donated her $710 winnings back so the Colby School District and Colby FFA received a total of $1,420, that will be used to update the school’s greenhouse. +++ Horacek Electric has been serving the Abbotsford area for 80 years. It was started by Peter Horacek Sr. in 1942. In 1960, Peter Horacek Jr. took over from his father. In 2007, Peter Jr.’s business was named “Business of the Year” and in 2019, he was named an outstanding alumni and his name was added to the Abbotsford High School “Wall of Fame.” +++ The Colby-Abbotsford Police Department is trying to raise $207,000 from area businesses to cover the cost of ovcer wages through 2024. The extra funds would be a short term fix to increased revenue needs and would be used to increase pay for ovcers that reportedly make $3-$6 dollars per hour less than surrounding departments.

The Sentinel & Rural News

The June 27 Pop-Up-Food Pantry, held in Withee, served 71 households compared to the May Pantry that served 55 families. This is a Community Outreach Program of Feed My People held in conjunction with sponsoring communities. +++ On July 16, from 6-8 pm, the Owen-Withee FFA Alumni is holding its Cows, Plows & Wine 8 fundraiser at Munson Bridge Winery. Food, raffles, silent auction and music is ouered. +++ Owen Mayor Charlie Milliren, announced at the June 28 City Council Meeting, that the public wishing to speak at meetings will need to do so only during the time on the agenda designated for “Public Comment.” The mayor indicated he was no longer likely to honor any requests to speak during the regular meetings. The article writer speculated that the decree was likely the result of the last council meeting when there was an exchange of words between a council member and an attendee and a city council member was charged with disorderly conduct and paid a fine.

Tri -County Area Times

Big crowds again lined Augusta’s Main Street to view the Annual Bean and Bacon Days Parade, held on Sunday, July 3. This year’s queen is Beth Boone. This year the parade’s Grand Marshal was Steve Sobotta. +++ The Brighter Future for Fairchild Association has decorated street lamp poles, signs and telephone wires with colorful ribbons marking a walking path within the village. +++ State aids have been announced for 2022-2023. Tri-County Area Schools receiving funding are Augusta which will receive $4,481,867, a 4.15 percent increase. Eleva-Strum will received $5,683,344 an increase of 9.61 percent. Fall Creek will receive $5,968,846 up just .34 percent. And Osseo-Fairchild will receive $6,693,520 up 4.90 percent.

Buualo County News Part of Mondovi’s 4th of July celebration took place on Sunday, July 3. The Mondovi Area Historical Society sponsored its 11th annual “The Past in the Park” event at the Mondovi Tourist Park. Besides interesting historic artifacts, that were displayed, there was an Old-Fashioned 4th of July Speech given by Middle/ High School Principal Darin Gray and the Mondovi Community Band played historic music. +++ The Gilmanton Sportsman’s Club treasurer has been charged with stealing nearly $28,000 in club funds. +++ On June 27, to commemorate their 125th Anniversary, that was held in 2017, the Buualo River Masonic Lodge #252 in Mondovi placed a new cornerstone as they have now completed some extensive outdoor renovations to their property.
