Children’s performer Randy Peterson brought music, movement, and a love of reading to the Stanley Fire Station on June 19th during a special concert hosted by the D.R. Moon Memorial Library. The event, which began at 10:30 a.m., was located at the Stanley Fire Station due to ongoing construction at the library. Peterson, a well-known entertainer and educator, delivered an interactive program of songs and stories called Randy’s Musical Rainbow. Throughout his musical performances, Peterson encouraged children to participate by singing, clapping, and acting out parts of the songs, turning the presentations into lively, hands-on learning experiences. One song focused on the life cycle of the monarch butterfly. Using props he crafted himself, he guided children through the butterfly’s transformation from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to adult butterfly — all set to an original song played on his guitar.
“Entertainers like Randy Peterson bring excitement and silliness to the summer reading program,” said Nicole Witt, Youth Services Coordinator for the D.R. Moon Memorial Library. “He takes kids on a journey through songs and encourages them to travel to fun places through exploring books and reading.”
The program was part of the D.R. Moon Memorial Library’s 2025 summer reading initiative, “Color Our World,” which offers activities and events aimed at encouraging literacy, creativity, and learning from June 2- August 7th.
