Pending approval by the Public Service Commission (PSC), Boyd residents will soon be charged for fire protec tion on their utility bills, or else directly if they have none.
“If they have a utility bill it would be put there,” village clerk Sandi Isaacs explained of the fire protection charge. "If they don’t we would direct bill them.”
The change—which still awaits PSC approval—comes on the heels of a resolution approved by the village board at its August 8 meeting, that being Resolution 2022-03. Motion to approve was made by president Bob Geist, being seconded by village trustee Gwen Krizan.
Making reference to state statute 193.03(3)(b) as that allowing the village to collect a fire protection charge either through tax levy or as a direct charge on the water utility bills, the resolution states “greater equity” as the reason for the change. As such, the entire public fire protection charge would be placed on utility bills as a direct charge for all users, with village stau authorized in the said resolution to work
with PSC stau in the imple mentation of the new payment method.
