Boyd Village Board accepts Grunewald resignation

Longtime Streets and Utilities head has served Boyd for 35 years, last day December 31

The face of Boyd Public Works will be changing soon, as Tom Grunewald will be retiring December 31, 2023.

Grunewald’s resignation, made following surgery and approved by the village board at the Augusta 14 regular board meeting, brings to an end some 35 years of service to Boyd Public Works. A graduate of August High, Grunewald was hired by the Village of Boyd on September 6, 1988. From then until now, it’s been memorable.

Appearing on page 6 of the October 13, 1988 Stanley Republican, the then new hire merits just two sentences:

“Motion by Endvick to accept contract with Grunewald as village employee, seconded by DiLegge. All eyed, motion carried.”

Robert A. Goetz was then village president, with Diane Meyer the village clerk. Robert Geist is now president, with Sandi Isaacs the clerk.

Now on medical leave following surgery, Grunewald’s resignation comes following a doctor’s visit, in which he was told to take 12 weeks off in place of the initially planned eight weeks. Bob LaMarche was present at the August 14 meeting to give the Streets and Utilities report customarily given by Grunewald.

“I just want to say publicly that he will be missed,” trustee Dale Isaacs said of Grunewald. “He’s served the village for a long time.”
