Winter parking rules now or soon in force across Stanley-Boyd area
With October over and November officially in, a yearly tradition will soon be back again—or two, that is.
As to the first, winter parking rules are or will soon be back, with the City of Stanley beginning Nov. 15 and runs through April 3 at Stanley. Within the Village of Boyd the rules started Nov. 1, with policy in both communities prohibiting on street parking between the hours of 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.
As to the second yearly tradition, Winter Wonderland will soon be back—the light show, that is. The event was approved by the Stanley Council at its Monday Oct. 17 meeting.
With the opening ceremony officially taking place Dec. 4 from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m., decorating will take place this Saturday Nov. 12 at 9 a.m., a joint effort being made by all the high school clubs. Those wishing to make donations of working Christmas lights or outdoor ornaments may do so by dropping these off at the park.
Those wishing to make checks and monetary donations to the light show effort may drop checks off at the high school office with "attention: National Honor Society" for the notice.
Those who wish to donate lights but are unable to do so on Saturday, Nov. 12 may drop these off in front of the bathrooms behind the wall at the Campground before the first weekend in December. As to the new Memory Tree, it's made of wreaths!
*We had bulbs last year that unfortunately blew off the tree with the winter winds, so we are going with wreaths attached to a wooden tree this year,” National Honor Society advisor Polly Hoffman said. Those wishing to sponsor a wreath in memory of a loved one may do so with a Memory Wreath for $10, while Hoffman also thanked those clubs who had donated to the tradition now in its third year.
"Thanks again to ALL who have donated throughout the year, especially the Sportsman Club," she said. "They do nated $500 last year and another $1,000 this year. This is so appreciated, as we can light up so many more trees with extra extension cords and LED light options with that money.”
With that said, the opening is scheduled for Dec. 4 from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.-with hot cocoa!
