Miss Stanley candidates sought for Stanley Rodeo Days June 17 – 19
Want to try your hand at being an ambassador ?
If so, the City of Stanley could use you. Currently accepting applications for the annual Queen Contest to take place during Rodeo Days, the Queen Committee can be reached at 715-206-0855 (Darla) or else 715-559-6021 (Nikki). With current entries scarce, the chances of getting yourself on that queen float, should increase correspondingly.
In the meantime, there’s Council news to report on.
Meeting Monday May 16 at 7 p.m. at the COUNCIL UPDATE
From Page 1
Stanley Fire Hall, the Common Council for the City of Stanley formally approved a temporary Class B Retailer’s License for STPR Ince, for an event to take place at Chapman Park. That event?
The Stanley Truck and Tractor Pull, which kicks ou at 4 p.m. Friday June 11, Jack Leja listed as primary contact for the event.
Organized for the present season as of December 2021 and earning recommendations from the public works, fire, and police depart ment heads, the Truck and Tractor Pull will also see the closure of County Highway O from 8th Avenue West to the Chapman Lake Dam. Coming in for the public works update, meanwhile, John Hoel had more to write the Council regarding adding barriers to the fire hydrant and lift station north of the Community Center.
“We will need to look at adding barriers around the fire hydrant and lift station north of the Community Center,” Hoel wrote the Council of event preparations. “There have been several close calls to motorists hitting them and with the truck pull and rodeo fast approaching this will need to be done sooner rather than later. We will look into what is available and also what will look the best for these items.”
Also touched on by Hoel in the public works report is monitoring of needed road maintenance on Industrial Park and Urquhart Roads, along with trees tipped over in the cemetery from the storm.
Regarding the cemetery, Hoel said that he had spoken with Ryan Westaby.
“We will remove what headstones we can manage but will need some assistance from a monument company to remove the larger stones, then replace all of the stones once the stumps are removed,” Hoel said of maintenance at the city cemetery. As to the grader, Hoel said that once it’s repaired the public works department would be getting cold patch and filling ruts that had formed on Industrial Park and Urquhart Roads. The roads in the West Industrial Park are a designated truck route for heavy vehicles. So why cold patching?
“Spray patching in this area is not a feasible option and bag patch would be too time consuming and too expensive,” Hoel told the Council.
