The Stanley City Council adopted resolution 2024-028 to set the 2024 mill rate for the City of Stanley-Chippewa County at $13.51 at the Dec. 2 evening meeting. The council also adopted resolution 2024-029 setting the mill rate for the City of Stanley-Clark County at $17.71.
County Highway NN marks the boundary line between Chippewa and Clark Counties.
Alderperson Laurie Foster commented on the decrease in the mill rate this year.
“It’s gone down,” Mayor Mike Henke confirmed. “But that’s the overall mill rate.”
The council approved the proposal for geotechnical engineering service from Professional Services Industries Inc. (PSI) for Maple Street reconstruction for $4,950.00. “This is for surveying to be done on Maple Street to replace the forced main,” stated Henke.
“So, this will include resurface and everything?” asked Alderperson Mark Fitzsimmons.
Henke explained that it is to conduct geotechnical exploration.
Alderperson Jason Meyer asked, “Is that taking core samples and such?”
“See what’s out there,” answered Henke.
During the public comment period, Brian Lambert of Ayres Associates expressed his gratitude to the City of Stanley, on behalf of Ayres, for their partnership over the past year.
“On behalf of Ayres we’d like to thank you for working with us as partners this year on a couple of construction projects and the start of the water treatment plant,” Lambert said. He noted that Ayres, along with their subconsultant Applied Technologies Inc. (ATI), has completed the preliminary design report and is now eager to move forward with the final design adding that they are looking forward to working with the current operators on staff to proceed with the rehabilitation of the new central water plant. “We look forward to a good 2025,” he concluded.
The Council entered into closed session to discuss Ayres Associates contract issues and options. Upon returning to open session, the Council voted to send a letter to Ayres Associates formally terminating the contract.
The next City Council meeting has been rescheduled from December 16th to December 23rd at 7 p.m. and will be held at City Hall.
