Coach reflects on golf season

Posted

The girls golf season now over with regionals and sectionals both played, Coach Devon Wenndt reflected on how things went:

"First and foremost, our thanks go out to Whispering Pines and their staff," he said. "It seems as though we took on as much rain over a weekend as we did throughout the course of the entire summer leading into the Regional Championship. Not only were they fantastic hosts to us, but Dean Wojtczak and his staff had the golf course about as playable as anyone could ask it to be after so much rain. It was a fantastic day of golf. Congratulations to Coach Dachel and the ladies from Bloomer for winning the team title (team score 399), and also to Belle Kongshaug of Colfax/Elk Mound for her outstanding effort in taking home medalist honors. (even par 72).

"Our girls played about as well as I could have asked on Wednesday. Two of them shot their best 18 hole rounds of the season, and Allie Goodman was keeping pace with about three other players competing for the final individual qualifying spot for Monday's Sectional Championship contested at Clifton Highlands in Prescott. She was able to hang in there for about 14 holes before she ran out of gas. Not having played many 18 hole rounds this year (this was only their third 18 hole round), stamina is definitely an area that we look to improve upon next year. That, and our putting. Similar, I'm sure, to how the American Ryder Cup team felt this weekend,  there were too man putts that did not find the bottom of the hole. A definite and concrete area for improvement is never a bad thing, however...... it puts things into a very clear perspective. I'm proud not only of how my team fought and competed last Wednesday, but also of how much they grew throughout the season. I look forward to embracing new challenges next season."
