Bridge on County G also topic of hot discussion
The monthly meeting of the Colburn Town board began at 7pm on February 7th to a small crowd. Board members present were Brad Hompe, Kiel Morello, Jeff Milas, and Dana Hartzell. The bids for the road projects on 130th Avenue and 170th Avenue were the big issues on the agenda. American Asphalt, the solo bid for the 170th project, came in at $99,394.46. Chairman Hompe made a motion to accept the bid as presented with Morello seconding the motion. The motion was approved. The 130th project had three bids from A-1 Excavating, Haas Sons Inc. and McCabe Construction. A-1 Excavating had the lowest bid at $610,889.80. Due to a state grant, the town of Colburn is required to accept the lowest bid. Chairman Hompe made a motion to accept the low bid, per the state’s demand, of A-1 Excavating. Morello seconded the motion, and the motion was approved. The other hot topic of the night was the covered bridge on G that is being replaced. It’s a rare example of a standard through truss bridge. As it’s on the historical registry, they are looking for recommendations on how to mitigate the removal of the bridge as far as the history of it. Hompe suggested contacting the Stanley Historical Society President for ideas on how to preserve the bridge’s history. The next meeting was scheduled for March 14th.
