Colburn Town Board discusses 2024 Budget and sets Budget Hearing Meeting for November 7th at 7pm

The Town of Colburn held their regular meeting on October 3rd at 7pm at the Colburn Town Hall with Chairman Brad Hompe, Supervisor Kiel Morello and Treasurer Dana Hartzell in attendance and Board members Steve Sime and Jeff Milas absent. Hompe and Morello approved the updated Mobile Home Ordinance and ordinances for provisional liquor, picnic, and operator licenses and then began reviewing the 2024 budget.

“Shared revenue is taking a big jump,” Hompe commented and stated that this year it was $28,773.00 and it is projected next year to be $73,897.00. Transportation aid is estimated at $177,163.00. He commented that the second half of the ARPA funds have to be used in 2024. “Total revenue is at $482,848.02,” Hompe stated and went on to expenditures, naming news subscriptions at $1,000, elections at $3500 with only two expected for next year, $5500.00 for general building, and $500 for law enforcement which he explained is mainly for dog housing fees. “Fire protection and ambulance is continuing to go up,” Hompe said. “It’s $9700.00 and balances up to $15,500.00 so that was raised per capita likely from services.” As they finished the discussions, Hompe remarked, “That’s where we’re at. Bringing in more but spending a lot more.”

Discussions then turned to road work where Hompe mentioned that they plan to apply for grants for road work in the coming months but as the grants would be approved in 2024, work likely wouldn’t begin on the projects until 2025. Some roads mentioned as possible projects were 350th, 322nd, or 170th. He added that some grants would require a Town Road Improvement Plan to need to be in place, as a formality. Supervisor Morello looked it over and motioned to accept the 2024-2026 Road Improvement Plan, Hompe seconded it and it was unanimously approved.

The Town of Colburn will hold a Budget Hearing meeting on November 7th at 7pm before the regular meeting.
