Operator able to get out in time, no one hurt in fire off 330th Avenue

A combine fire on Friday afternoon between Stanley and Boyd has result – ed in the loss of expensive machinery, but no injuries. Called in after 2 p.m., the fire in a field off 330th Street saw response from Boyd-Edson-Delmar (B-E-D) Fire and Ambulance, com – plete with water carrier, ambulance, foam, and four wheeler. Two Grain Train bins were sitting at a distance from the combine with partial harvest inside. The response was overseen by assistant B-E-D Fire Chief John Zimmerman, as Chief Pat – ten was out of town for a few hours Friday. Things were wrapping on fire response by 3:30 p.m.

B-E-D Fire Chief Ron Patten said that combine owner Randy Mahr was driving at the time of the fire, with a possible hot bearing thought to be the cause of the blaze, though not official as of yet. Mahr was able to exit the driver's seat when the fire started.

"No one was hurt," Chief Patten said of the Friday fire. "Everyone got out in time." As to the combine itself, Patten said it was a total loss.

"The combine was fully engulfed upon arrival," he said of the farm ma – chine. "It's a complete loss." Several spot fires in the field were put out as well.
