The D.R. Moon Memorial Library is breaking ground for a library addition. Named for Eau Claire lumber baron Delos Rensselaer Moon Sr., the library at 154 East Fourth Avenue was presented as a gift from D.R. Moon’s widow Sally Moon, first dedicated in a ceremony at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in December 1901. Now soon to be 124 years old, the library building is being expanded to better serve the community. Groundbreaking for the addition will take place on Wednesday, June 25 at 10 a.m. and comes after a long process including site acquisition and donation by Walter Wartolec, request for design proposals, donations from several area businesses, city council support, and more! D.R. Moon Memorial Library Director Elizabeth Miniatt shared more on the groundbreaking ceremony set for this Wednesday.
“Celebrating the groundbreaking for our new library building is a major milestone and we are so excited to take this step as we head into the construction phase of our project this summer,” she said. “The groundbreaking is a testament to the involvement and dedication of so many throughout the time leading up to this moment. We are very grateful for the community’s interest and support for this key project and look forward to the expanded resources and space the new library will offer.”
Come on out to the library groundbreaking Wednesday, June 25 on Fourth Avenue!
