Summer youth sports are taking shape for Stanley, the Oriole Diamond Club submitting application for the use of Fandry Park from April through August this year.
In the consent agenda for Monday, Feb. 2 was approval of a Fandry Park Baseball Field use application by the Oriole Diamond Club Inc. With 250 total estimated program participants, the dates requested for city ball field use by the Oriole Diamond Club are April 1, 2026 through August 31, 2026. Games and practices will vary but are expected per the application to including afternoons, evenings, and some weekends (mostly in June), with event supervision and a concession stand during games. Covering baseball, softball, and t-ball, more information on the Oriole Diamond Club can be found by contacting Craig Luzinski at OrioleDiamondClub@gmail.com.
Also in council business but as its own separate item was approval of a speed limit reduction for County Highway O. The new speed limit originates in concerns expressed from outside the city and reduces the city speed limit on County Highway O from 35 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour, stretching from Fandry Park west of the city to the intersection with Eighth Avenue at Carter Road. Motion to approve the speed limit reduction was made by alderperson Laurie Foster and seconded by alderperson Therese Metzger.
“I have to agree that needs to get changed down to 25,” Foster said before the vote.
