‘Twas a cold and windy day on Saturday at Otter Lake--but that didn’t turn away the crowds come to ice fish.
The fun started at 9:30 a.m. with registration for the kid’s ice fishing contest through the Otter Lake Boosters Club, while the adult fishing contest with the Stanley Rod and Gun Club kicked off at 10:00 a.m., both youth and adults turning out en masse for ice fishing fun. Included in the fun were food and refreshments, with raffle prizes made possible by several area sponsors.
With clear skies and sunshine the temperature Saturday registered at nine degrees Fahrenheit before windchill. With 14 to 16 inches of lake ice the contest saw a good turnout, most contestants choosing an area north of the lake’s south boat landing to fish, while the 50/50 raffle reached a payout of over $700.
With a warming tent provided courtesy of Citizens State Bank and kids trophies by Adam Smit Financial, free hot dogs and hot cocoa were provided courtesy of Hansen’s IGA, the Stanley and Thorp McDonalds providing a free Happy Meal to each kid present. Every fish caught in the kid’s contest received a prize courtesy of McQuillan Plumbing and Courtesy Ford, while Oemig’s Sport Shop provided fishing bait. Otter Lake Booster Club members staffed the refreshment area in the warming tent, while up on shore the Stanley Rod and Gun Club also offered refreshments and raffle tickets to attendees, along with door prizes. Several guns were among the prizes raffled off Saturday by the Rod and Gun Club, with several cash prizes as well.
