A new solar farm to be called Wolf River Solar in Stanley’s West Industrial Park will soon harness the Sun for area electric grid benefit.

Breaking ground Tuesday August 8 in the West Industrial Park, Chippewa Valley Electric Cooperative (CVEC) will install solar panels with the ability to capture 1.5 megawatts of energy from the Sun.

The new solar farm follows one near New Auburn that opened in 2018, located one mile north of Highway AA on Highway 40.

The Stanley location to be built north of Highway 29 is on land leased from the city on contract off Janicki Road that will in turn be accessed by an easement with the city. CVEC Member Services Director Nicole Whipp-Sime shared more on the project with expected completion in December 2023.

“The Community Solar Garden (CSG) will save our Members money in the long run as we are entering into a fixed price contract, buying energy from the CSG at today’s rates for the next 15-25 years,” Whipp-Sime said. “The contract has not yet been finalized, hence the range of years. We have no reason to believe that energy costs will be decreasing going forward.”

Nonetheless, and with the solar panels having reflectors to capture energy that might not otherwise be used, the farm will add to the power grid, with enough power to supply 600 homes.
