Oriole boys meet McDonell at home

Meeting McDonell Friday April 19 at Oriole Park, the boys varsity baseball team came away with a win 10-0 against the Chippewa Falls school, bringing their overall record to 2 -5 for the season. The Friday win came on the heels of a loss 17-7 to Loyal Tuesday. Orioles head coach Ryan Strum shared more after the score was tallied.
“I am very happy with my team’s effort against McDonell on Friday,” Sturm said. “They are starting to put together better at bats and our pitchers threw strikes. We are trending in the right direction as a team.”
In terms of player stats, Haydn Gustafson lead the team in batting average at .333, followed by Eli Hazuga at .278 and Logan Grey with .273. On base percentage is led by Alex Williams with .565, followed by Gustafson with .524 and Ethan Soweja at .444.
In pitching stats, Alex Williams leads with 185 total pitches, followed by Dawson Ewer with 146 and Soweja with 133. Williams has pitched four games this season along with Ewer while Soweja has pitched 2.
In fielding stats, Gustafson leads assists with 15, followed by Williams with 10 and Ewer with 5. Gustafson also leads in double plays, having two this season to one each for Soweja, Williams, Hazuga, Parker Krizan, and JJ Heller.
The Orioles next face Fall Creek Thursday April 25 at Fall Creek. Game start is 5 p.m.
