Dan Boyea to be honored with name at House of Heroes

A new name will soon grace the House of Heroes at Cadott, that of Dan Boyea. Mistreated upon return from service, then working at the Northwestern Center and later the Department of Corrections, Boyea never talked much about his time in the army. With Boyea now diagnosed with cancer after falling ill last Thanksgiving, a group of friends and fellow veterans are teaming up to make sure that Boyea and his family get their due. With a gathering held at Boyea’s home Thursday, Jan. 12 to present the local veteran with membership in AmVets as well as honorary membership in Post 376, while Dan’s wife Joan was given membership in the American Legion Auxiliary as well as VFW Auxiliary.

Never having been a part of a veteran’s organization or auxiilary before, the organizations could have helped Dan and his family sooner with veteran’s benefits and disability related to time in the Service.

Speaking briefly at the impromptu home event, Dan said he loved his grandkids and wife, as well as that he enjoyed working at the Northwestern Center. Later on in the DOC, he tried to treat prisoners as clients, rather than convicted criminals. Boyea said he found that by asking questions instead of getting in people’s faces that situations could have a better outcome.

A fundraising drive will be shared to provide Dan his place in the House of Heroes at a later date, dedication taking place July 22.
