Anyone planning a fishing outing at Otter Lake within the past week were likely surprised to see the disappearance of the dock at the lakes south boat landing.
On Tuesday, October 26, Department of Natural Resources crews from Spooner and Ashland arrived at Otter Lake for the long overdue removal of the structure. The dock, which has been in deteriorating condition, was dismantled and hauled away by the crew.
According to Greg Behling, DNR Parks and Recreation Specialist, a new ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliant boat dock will be installed in the spring of 2022. He indicated the new dock will be much wider than the one just removed.
Sadly, vandals removed many of the poles and rails that were attached to the dock and threw them in the lake. Throughout the years, local clubs and the DNR placed buoys alongside the dock; however, they also disappeared over a period of time.
Crews from the Ashland and Spooner DNR offices removed the Otter Lakes south boat landing fishing pier on October 26. Submitted photo.
