Just what they needed. That’s how Oriole varsity softball coach Andrea Mahr described a 15 - 0 shutout against Regis at Carson Park on April 28, following a narrow loss to Osseo-Fairchild.
“The win against Regis was just what we needed to bring us into this next week, where we will face some of the top teams in the conference,” she said. “The girls came away from the game confident with their hitting and base running abilities. Hard not to feel confident after a game with 15 hits. Running around the bases is fun and hits are contagious! It really boosted our morale!”
Starting in the top of the first, Stanley scored one run, followed by a second in the next inning. The fourth inning was where most of the magic happened, with Stanley-Boyd scoring 11 more runs, finishing out with two more in the fifth to close Regis down. Among those contributing to the win Contributing to against Regis were Tina Benson, Emily Brenner, and Mallory Eslinger, Aaliyah Allard, Emme Felmlee, and Lauren Potaczek, who each got two. Taniele Ducommun, Bailey Sikora, adn Abby Reynolds each contributed one, meanwhile. With the number of hits matching the number of runs (15) that made it home, Abby Reynolds held Regis at bay with pitching, a 44-33 pitches to strike ratio preventing the Ramblers from getting traction. With two hits but none batted in, it was 15 - 0 Stanley-Boyd. Coach Mahr shared some parting thoughts off the victory against Regis.
“This team has what it takes to beat any team in our conference,” she said. “I am very proud of their increased communication and ability to move on from mistakes. When we played Cadott and battled back 15 runs to win 17-15 from a 2-12 deficit, I think it proved that this team can do anything.”
The Lady Orioles next face McDonell Central Catholic at Chippewa Falls Thursday May 4. Game start is scheduled for 5 p.m.
