“I wanted to give back to the community and I think on how the firemen are all volunteer, giving of their time, waking up middle of the night and just put on their boots and go!”  Martino’s Restaurant owner Ron Haas said of the inspiration for starting the Pizza and Fire Prevention fundraiser to benefit area firemen. “I have had to call emergency (911) and there is nothing that is more of a relief than seeing the lights and hearing the sirens coming!”

Coming once again to Stanley this Saturday Oct. 14, the annual Martino’s Pizza and Fire Prevention event will come to Martino’s Restaurant from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Firefighters from the Stanley and Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire Departments will help out with the event, alongside Martino’s staff. Boyd-Edson-Delmar will also be bringing an ambulance for tours, thankful for the support by Martino’s of the department.

“It helps us a lot,” Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire Chief Ron Patten shared of the annual Pizza and Fire Prevention fundraiser, with B-E-D firemen helping to make the pizzas and wash dishes, alongside the Stanley Fire Department.

“Yes we will be helping out this year,” Stanley Fire Chief Korey Hagenson said, also confirming the ladder truck with a new U.S. flag would be at the event.

“We are still planning on using the money that we raise to purchase a new set of TNT JAWS,” Hagenson said of the plans of the Stanley department with fundraiser proceeds. “The estimated cost is about $10,000 each. We would like to purchase a combination tool and extended spreader. The fundraiser really helps out in buying tools that our budget will never support. We purchased our new Gravely UTV with the donations we raised from the fundraiser in past years.”

With orders kept to one topping to help with speed, a large pizza will be $18 and a small pizza $11, the pizzas made by local firemen. Options for ordering include pick up or dine in, with 100 percent of sales for the day going to the needs of local fire departments. Residents can order by calling 715-644-3334, with a few last details from Martino’s owner Ron Haas.

“The firemen and EMT’s are answering the phone, taking orders, making the pizzas waiting on customers. They are even washing the dishes!” He said. “Because of this, please stick to the one topping pizzas. Also please expect a wait during busy times. Call early for large orders. Please order a pizza for the firemen!!  Let’s make this the best year ever!!”
