New Postmaster at Stanley

Stanley Wisconsin has a new postmaster.

Derek Zurakowski, age 53 of Thorp, is taking the place of retiring postmaster Steve Wiensch, who retired Jan. 31.

With eight years in the postal service and starting as a letter carrier, Zurakowski comes from Marathon, having worked road construction and for Haas prior to the post office.

“I came from Marathon,” he said recently. “I was postmaster in Marathon. Before that I was in Eau Claire. I started out as a letter carrier.”

But while taking over the office Dec. 28, Zurakowski doesn’t plan much for changes at Stanley.

“I’m not doing much for changes,” he said. “Running pretty smooth.” One thing he is looking for, meanwhile, is more help.

“Looking to get a few more people hired on,” he said.

Interested applicants can apply online at usps.com, or talk to Zurakowski at the post office. A job fair is planned for March 7.
