The Stanley Police Department has a new full-time officer!
Christian Cortes-Cartegena, 38, was hired by the department earlier this spring. Cortes-Cartagena shared more on his background and how he came to law enforcement.
“My name is Christian Cortes-Cartagena, and I am 38 years old,” he shared recently. “I was born in Puerto Rico, where I was raised within a vibrant culture that fostered a strong sense of community and commitment to service. In 2013, I made the important decision to relocate to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in pursuit of new opportunities and experiences. By February 2026, I had the privilege of marrying a remarkable individual from Colfax, Wisconsin, who has profoundly enhanced my life.
“In terms of academic qualifications, I hold a bachelor’s degree in social and human sciences with a major in Criminology, which aligns closely with my passion for understanding human behavior and societal issues. In December 2024, I completed 720 hours of Law Enforcement Basic Training at Chippewa Valley Technical College.
“From an early age, I was drawn to the idea of serving in either the armed forces or law enforcement. The commitment to protect and serve has resonated with me, particularly influenced by several family members who have served within various capacities in the police force. Their dedication and passion greatly inspired my pursuit of a career in this field. My primary motivation is to assist individuals and effect positive change within our community. I firmly believe in the importance of ensuring safety and well-being for those around me.
“In 2023, I started my law enforcement career as a Correctional Officer at the Eau Claire County Jail. This position has afforded me invaluable experience, allowing me to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds while upholding the law and contributing to community safety. After the academy, I worked for the Chippewa Falls Police Department and the Augusta Police Department. Now I’m proud to serve the community of the City of Stanley.”
