Old bell on a new tower at St. Peter's Lutheran in Boyd

There’s a new tower for the old bell at St. Peter’s Lutheran In Boyd, with plenty of thanks to go around.

Raised on a concrete pad that was poured last fall, the bell dated 1897 is mounted between two I-beams joined at top by a crossbar surmounted by the bell mount.

Soon to have an electric ringer, the concrete pad for the bell tower was poured by Lamar Zimmerman of Scenic Ridge Masonry and Concrete of Edson, while Allen Sauder did the tower welding.

Bill Nelson brought the tower to town with a log truck, with Bruce Christoph on X east of Boyd hauled the bell to the site. Once everything was on site, John Schunk raised the tower and bell in the air with a lift. Other helpers for the project included Ed Trunquist, Wade Eslinger, Ken Zimmerman, Tim Pilgrim, Jim Cooley, and Jacob Christoph.

Now at home in the bell tower at 212 East Murray Street in Boyd, the bell will soon have an electric ringer, pealing out the hours and calling people to church.
