Spring elections arrive in April, but candidates have to declare by January for ballot access. With three seats on the ballot at Boyd, at least one has no candidate, Trustee Sarah McQuillan filing non-candidacy earlier this month.
Papers for those interested in serving as a Boyd trustee can be taken out at the Boyd Village Hall, with 20 signatures requires to make the ballot. Deadline to return papers is January 7 at 5 p.m. Several townships are also holding spring elections for board officers. Methods of candidate selection vary, several using caucus.
As for Boyd, Village Clerk Sandi Isaacs had more on the present candidate field.
“Sarah McQuillan has filed non-candidacy,” Isaacs said Thursday of incumbents declaring not to run next year. McQuillan was first elected to the board in 2021, serving two terms.
As for other seats, Isaacs shared Thursday that current Village President Bob Geist and Trustee Michael Eslinger had taken out papers but not returned them yet.
“Neither has returned them,” she said of Geist and Eslinger. Geist was a village trustee before being elected as village president in 2021, while Eslinger came to the board later.
Also on the list of opportunities this spring at Boyd meanwhile are election judge and poll worker. Interested parties can find out more on those opportunities from the Boyd Village Hall.
