The varsity softball season is over this year at Stanley- Boyd, following a loss to Durand on Monday in regional play.
"A slow start ouensive – ly and two miscues on the field was too much to overcome,” Coach Tyler Wagner said Monday. “With that being said, I’m proud of the mental toughness and fight that our team showed tonight.”
The Monday regional had been rescheduled from Thursday of last week for rain following a regular season win at Durand Tuesday May 17 that had seen the Orioles come out 9 – 2, ending the regular season with a 3-15 record. That endurance was important, Wagner said.
“We’ve talked all year how easy it is to quit and give up, and tonight we battled back to where we had the game tying run on base in the final inning," he said. “We put some good games together in these final weeks, and gave something positive to build on going into the summer.”
Now in the ouseason, Coach Wagner emphasized the importance of players continuing to develop and if they so choose to return next year and play again.
“The future is bright for Stanley-Boyd softball,” he said in summation.
