The Oriole girls varsity basketball season is over for present, the Orioles falling to Viroqua at Viroqua with a final score of 48 - 24.
Making plays in the first half were Syleen Seichter with 2 free throws and a two pointer, as well as Aaliyah Allard with 5 free throws.
Coming back in the second, Seichter made a free throw and a two pointer, with Kennedy Reed and Ava Prahl each scoring three pointers while Lauren Potaczek and Allard made two pointers. Coach Ryan Wundrow shared some thoughts after the score sheet was finalized.
“Viroqua came out and played hard,” he said.
“We were not ready for their intensity and how loud their gym was. We battled despite not shooting very well and made a run in the 2nd half but came up short. We didn’t get stops we needed or shots to drop. It was a great experience which will only help our young team moving forward.
“The season as a whole was a success from the standpoint of making basketball fun. I looked forward to spending time with those girls everyday and am a little heart broken it ended so abruptly. My number one goal was to build their trust and make it fun. I think we did that. We are very young and inexperienced and that showed against some really great competition. A handful of teams that we played are still playing in the sectionals so our girls got a very good taste of what great basketball looks and sounds like. At times we played some really good basketball but not for extended periods of time. Looking forward we have some great athletes on our team that need to put in work to become better basketball players. We are going to work on building leaders within our program and create a foundation of skills at our high school and youth levels. Opportunities will be abundant for them to get better, time to do the work.”
