Orioles travel to La Crosse for Bi-State Classic

Heading to La Crosse Saturday for the Bi-State Classic, the Oriole varsity wrestlers came away from the day with several notable results, Breckin Burzynski (20-2) placing fourth and scoring 28.5 team points in the 138-pound boys weight class while Willy Graham (18-5) placed fifth and scored 35 team points in the 285 pound boys weight class.
Anna Krizan (10-2) continued with her recent tournament performances to place fifth and score 19 team points in the 107 girls weight class. Orioles Head Coach Greg Burzynski shared more after the scores were tallied.
“Anna had a great first Bi-State experience,” he said. “She proved for the second tournament in a row that she can hang with the best girls in the state. We are very happy with her performance here with a 5th place finish.” The praise continued for Breckin Burzynski.
“Breckin wrestled a great tournament,” Coach Burzynski said. “He placed fourth in a very deep bracket. He should be very proud of this accomplishment! As his coach (and father), I sure am! This was a great test for him and he had proven he is among the best.” Coach Burzynski also had words for Graham’s performance.
“Willy placed for the second consecutive year improving from 10th in 2022 to 5th this year,” Burzynski said. “He continues to be a presence in the heavyweight division this year moving up from 220 last season. He is doing a very nice job adapting to wrestling these bigger guys. He made it to the quarterfinals and battled back to the 5th place match through the consolation bracket.”
Billed as among the toughest tournaments in the state, the Bi-State Classic at La Crosse combines divisions and has teams from across the river.
“This tournament is among the toughest in the state,” Coach Burzynski said. “The combination of all divisions and addition of strong Minnesota teams make this arguably tougher than the state tournament. There are 72 teams in this tournament so making the Saturday evening session and being in the top 6 is impressive."
