The Police, Fire, and Finance Committee discussed the solutions for replacing tender two for the Stanley Fire Department. Fire Chief Korey Hagenson informed the committee of a 2002 Pierce Sabre with 38,000 miles that is available for purchase at $250,000. Council member Holly Kitchell asked for further information on how the Stanley Fire Department intends to pay for the purchase of the needed tender with a payment plan. Chief Hagenson described his efforts at increasing revenue for the Fire Department and looking into the possibility of billing for future fire service calls.
Council member Mark Fitzsimmons recommended more planning to obtain future contracts with area municipalities for fire service when the Stanley Fire Department is called to those areas.
“If we only have to service Stanley, that changes things,” he remarked on the importance of knowing which municipalities will want fire service from the Stanley Fire Department for future budgeting and equipment purchases.
Kitchell inquired about the previously discussed merger talks between Stanley, Thorp and Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire Departments.
Hagenson mentioned that there have not been any further discussions, but he is open to seeing what the next step is.
“Everybody said they wanted the next step,” Kitchell said, expressing the desire to see the lines of communication kept open on that topic. “We just need to get the right people into a room to just start having a conversation.”
“Rekindle the conversation,” Fitzsimmons added.
