At the June 9th Town of Edson board meeting, both residents and board members voiced serious concerns regarding the hazardous intersection of County Highway MM and County Highway G.
“I have a concern about that stop sign on MM and G. People are going through it,” a resident commented.
“Amen,” exclaimed Supervisor Jim Junker. “I’ve been tempted to call the County on that.”
Junker emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue, stating, “It needs something to set it apart from a regular intersection. It’s a bad intersection. So many accidents there. I can’t believe nothing has been done at this point.” Junker added that the County has jurisdiction over both of those roads, not the township.
One resident in attendance, who had recently been involved in an accident at this intersection due to someone not stopping, raised a poignant question: “How do we get something done?”
Junker responded, “They need to set it apart somehow,” acknowledging the need for distinctive signage, rumble strips, or other measures to enhance visibility and safety.
“To me something to set it apart from a typical intersection.” He added that he had too many close calls at that intersection. Junker stated his intention to contact the appropriate authorities to formally report the hazardous conditions at the intersection.
Supervisor Shawn Stuttgen added that the intersection typically sees at least one accident per year, often requiring the involvement of the fire department. This statistic underscores the recurring nature of the safety concerns at this location.
Attendees at the meeting mentioned potential solutions to improve safety at the intersection, including the possibility of installing flashing stop lights, additional signage, or rumble strips.
