Ron Haas retirement party planned at Stanley Community Center

Event to say "Thank you" to local businessman

Stanley area residents will have a chance to say ‘thank you’ to Ron Haas Feb. 4, a retirement party being held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Stanley Community Center.
Haas, best known for owning Martino’s Restaurant, has turned over the reins to new owners Megan and John Junker, whom he wishes well. “I wish Megan and John the best - I think they’ll do well,” Haas said of the new owners of Martino’s Restaurant, Megan being one of the original employees when Martino’s first opened, now just under 20 years ago.
Under Haas the restaurant on Pine Street took part in ‘Read It to Eat It,’ in which students read books in order to earn pizza, as well as the long running Pizza and Fire Prevention Fundraiser held each October. Just this past year the fundraiser reached a grand total of $75,000 in funding to local fire departments, achieved over more than a decade in existence.
As for Haas, “it’s pretty much full retirement” in terms of work at the restaurant. Over the years Haas has also been active with the Stanley Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Stanley Business Association, among others.
“ My desire and hope was to get the groups back together,” he said of a time when the two had split. The groups now back together, Haas said it was the Chamber’s goal to be an asset to the community. And there was more.
“I just want to say thanks to the community too,” he said of how he got to know so many people over the years. A graduate of Stanley-Boyd High School and fixture in the local community, residents will have a chance to visit with Haas at his retirement party Feb. 4 at the Stanley Community Center, the fun beginning at 2 p.m. and running until 6 p.m.
