S-B Referendum Facts

Posted

This is the final installment in a weekly column providing information on the $23 million referendum on the ballot for the April 2 election. See the Community Calendar for remaining informational meetings.

I want to thank Mr. Koenig and the school board for being accessible for this process. The informational meetings, mailed brochure, YouTube video and this collum has been very informative.
Last questions:

1. If the referendum is approved what is the construction timeline?

2. Without the referendum passing; will the administrative office be moved anyways? --Dan Plombon

1. If the referendum is approved, several more planning meetings will be scheduled with the community to put together the final plans. Even if you have not attended any of the prior planning meetings, you are still welcome to attend. The goal would be for the project to go to bid in October. Construction could begin in the spring of 2025. The project would be a two-year phased project throughout 2025 and 2026.

2. This is something the board would have to decide. Relocating the district office becomes a much greater expense when it is a stand-alone project rather than being included in a larger-scale project. The board would also need to weigh the district office against our other facility needs.
We have identified a list of projects needing to be addressed in the next five years (some of these projects are included in the referendum but would still be completed if the referendum fails). These projects are currently planned to be completed through our facility savings and regular district budget. Replace the stage curtains, remove the drop ceiling in gym, pave bus garage area, building envelope repairs, replace air handler in Band/Choir area, install security film on additional entrances, Boyd classroom remodel, repair/replace the main entrance ramp, replace the bus garage office floor, elementary bathroom remodel, remodel/repurpose elementary kitchen area, improve our alternative school, and playground upgrades. If we did not have facility savings set aside at this time, many of these projects would not be possible. Our savings and responsible money management make these projects possible.
